Tripoli may not get all the positive press that Beirut does, but that doesn't mean that it isn't pretty freaking awesome as well.

Here are 9 reasons why Lebanon's northern capital is amazing, maybe even as much as Beirut.

1. Some of the most unique architecture in Lebanon is found in Tripoli

The International Fair of Tripoli, designed by renowned architect Oscar Niemeyer, is a must see landmark.

2. Want history? There's definitely history

Dating back to the 1300s, this crusader castle was built by Raymond de Saint-Gilles and is only one of the great historic attractions the city offers.

3. Tripoli's historic souk is actually still a traditional souk

Unlike the Beirut Souk, which has become an elite shopping destination, Tripoli's historic souk still maintains its traditional character.

4. And the food is top-knotch

If this photo doesn't convince you, then you'd better go try it for yourself.

5. If you've got a sweet tooth, Tripoli is the place for you

Established in 1881, Hallab offers what are arguably the best sweets in all of Lebanon. Sure, you can visit their branches in other locations but don't you want to try the original?

6. Also everything is a lot more affordable than Beirut

From rent prices to food prices, there is definitely a rather drastic difference.

7. Can we talk about the green for a second?

In Beirut, everyone complains about the lack of green spaces. In Tripoli, it just somehow seems the green has been integrated much more smoothly.

8. Tripoli's beaches definitely beat the ones in Beirut

From the sand to its cleaner waters, Tripoli has you beat Beirut. No offense, we still #LiveLoveYou.

9. And who doesn't want to visit the Rabbit Islands?

Who wants to plan a trip this weekend? Before winter comes . . .
