Ever wondered what would happen to us if our mothers and grandmothers no longer cooked the meals we live and die for?

These are traditional Arab meals that were a staple of our lives as kids from the 80s and 90s. And, for some reason, our moms never gave us the recipes... either that, or we just didn't listen.

The Arab world in the last few decades has changed at a rapid pace, and we all hope that these dishes aren't one of those things that modernity sweeps away. This is a call to action: we must put our kitchen skills to use!

I fear these 9 traditional dishes will no longer be a part of society, but only you can save these endangered dishes. Starting learning:

1. Wara enab

OK, I agree this isn't really the easiest dish to make, but with practice it will become less of a challenge. Nowadays, you can find already stuffed vine leaves, making the whole thing even easier. Really. Just try this recipe a couple times, and modify the lemon to taste.

2. Koussa/Batenjan/Malfoof mahshi

Pretty much anything can be stuffed with rice and meat. Really, anything. Once you get the traditional meals like koussa and batenjan mahshi recipes perfected, you can start experimenting with stuffed carrots, potatoes and tomatoes, too.

If you're a fan of chicken, dough and chickpeas, this one is a definite must-learn! It's similar to other Arab stews and easy to make. See for yourself and try this recipe .

Like I said, we just love stuffing. You may not be a fan of eating stomach and intestines (although I can't see why), but this is a extremely traditional meal that is challenging yet doable.

5. Fatteh

Fatteh is a special one. The real magic lies within the making of the laban, which has a hint of garlic in it. You can try the traditional recipe or even a batenjan fatteh if you want to switch things up a bit.

6. Mansaf

This one is not easy. But, I mean can you imagine a world without this delicious dish? So, get up and into the kitchen right now. Practice makes perfect when it comes to this recipe !

7. Meghle

Arab desserts are one-of-a-kind. Although we mostly get our sweets from a local bakery, desserts like meghle demand that you apply your skills. Tradition says that when a family has new baby, meghlé must be made. Be prepared...try this recipe .
