A widely popular dessert – otherwise known as Kaliva, in Romania, Ukraine, Serbia and Bulgaria – it has been altered into different versions. It is quite common in Lebanon, where it is known as snuniye or kamhiyeh.
It is normally prepared for Saint Barbara's day on Dec. 4.
