From Aug. 9 to the 13, the Perseid Meteor Shower is a must-not-miss. Peaking from Thursday to Saturday, it is considered one of the most extraordinary astronomical events of the year, with some astronomers predicting up to 200 meteors every hour.

Yet with thick smog coating Lebanon's skies – thanks to our skyrocketing pollution levels – stargazing can be quite a challenge. Fortunately, Lebanon is more or less a large mountain range, and there are plenty of ways to escape civilization and bask in the starlight.

Here are 8 places you should consider watching the Perseid Meteor Shower from, which are not horribly remote but affords you a wonderful view of the skies:

From this town in the Bekaa valley, you can see the lights of the city of Zahle glimmer below you, as the stars shimmer above. It is a spot unlike the rest in this list because the land here is more arid and the altitude is lower. Still, the Bekaa has a special charm that will surely enchant you in its own way.

5. Qornet Al Sawda
