Movies in the 2000s were just awesome. The first on the list is "Meet The Parents," a film you couldn't have missed because it was that good.

There are certain scenes in the film that totally understood some of the struggles us Arabs go through.

1. Expecting a male to be either a doctor or an engineer

No matter how hard we try to battle those gender role stereotypes, unfortunately they still kind of exist. There are certain jobs Arab parents will never ever understand.

2. Getting kicked off the plane for no reason at all, really

Just because you l ook Arab, speak Arab, or write Arabic . It's ridiculous how many people have been escorted off planes this year alone.

3. Meeting the father-in-law is every man's worst nightmare

Yeah, I know meeting your father-in-law is quite nerve-wrecking for anyone, but in the Arab world it's like double the trouble considering how attached fathers are to their daughters. The father just wants a reason to believe that this is what his daughter deserves.

4. Your family will only be at ease with the people you hang out with if they know their family... or something about their family

Arab parents just love to know every single person in your life... that includes knowing their family or something about their family. Circles of trust rarely expand.

5. Hiding the fact that you smoke because "ayb?"

All teenage boys hide the fact that they smoke from their parents, not because of health concerns but because the habit is somewhat "ayb." They eventually grow out of it and just go public with the announcement.

6. Having an over-sized carry on always!

Yup, Arabs while traveling are something else. From over-sized carry on luggage to overweight shipped luggage, we just always have a billion things to carry around.
