The United Arab Emirates is a place full of wonder and excitement. However, much of they hype is focused one one area ... Dubai.

While Dubai is a great area to see touristic sites, people often overlook the fact that there are six other Emirates to explore. They offer serene beaches and national history and so much more.

1. Al Majaz Waterfront, Sharjah

What used to be just a park has expanded into a beautiful waterfront with a wide array of restaurants along the water and beautiful lush greenery all around. They plan yearly events at the waterfront and have attractions for the whole family; something you can't miss!

2. Yas Island, Abu Dhabi

Yas Island is a gold mine of adventures, and among them are: Yas Waterworld, Ferarri World (which is a theme park) Yas Beach, the golf course Yas Links and a daytime boat cruise at Captain Tony's. It's practically begging for you to say "yas!"

3. Beach and Watersports, Ras Al Khaimah

=

If you're looking for a relaxing and less populated beach than Kite Beach in Jumeirah, try taking a long road trip to Ras Al Khaimah, to experience its deep blue seas and starry nights. It's the perfect spot for a "staycation" as well. You can spend a weekend at a beautiful hotel resort, go parasailing ... the opportunities are endless.

4. Umm al-Quwain Fort, Umm al-Quwain

Inside the fort is a small, well-preserved museum that's full of natural history. It contains cultural relics of the Emirates past. An archaeological museum can also be found next to the first museum, which displays historical coins and pottery among other things. This is definitely a worthwhile field trip if you're a history buff!

5. Al Ain Zoo, Abu Dhabi

The Al Ain Zoo, which is soon to include a full safari, houses more than 4,000 animals, with 30 percent of those being endangered species. The zoo is more like a park where visitors can see a large animal collection in enclosures that closely resemble their natural habitats. There are plenty of green public spaces for picnics and also playgrounds, a cafeteria and a train tour of the wildlife area.

6. Corniche, Ajman

The Ajman Corniche is a beautiful sandy area near the water that hosts two food trucks and a running track. It's a wonderful place to visit if you just want a calm day by the sea without actually swimming.
