Everyone knows that Dubai is a new city that cropped-up no more than 40 years ago. Its modern constructions truly make it a world wonder. Here are some of the craziest.
1. Man-made islands
That’s right … It’s islands with an "s," because there’s not only one but at least three man-made islands. These include The Palm Jumierah, a 5.72 square kilometers island that has many hotels and residential buildings and houses, and The World Islands, which basically are the whole wide world shrunk up nicely on the shores of Dubai.
2. Ski Dubai
While many residents take this for granted as they eat their Häagen-Dazs ice cream and walk by it, Ski Dubai is truly a wonder. Who thought you could actually ski in the middle of the desert? If you had told Ibn Batuta that, he would have told you that you’re cray-cray … and speaking of which …
3. Ibn Batuta Mall
And yes, it should have its own category! This impressive mall is taken for granted as well, despite the fact that it has 6 different courts, each with a design based on the architectural style of the cities visited by the great Moroccan explorer Ibn Batuta. The courts also contain displays of various inventions and items that give you an exciting history lesson for free while you shop for that iPhone cover or a piece of fake jewelry from those kiosks ... What more do you need?
4. Dubai Miracle Garden
This garden opened in 2013 and it’s been blooming ever since! (See what I did there?) It’s a beautiful haven that takes you on a trip better than Alice’s trip to wonderland. From its Umbrella Road to the Aromatic Garden, this place will sure wow you and put a smile on your face … unless you are allergic to flowers.
5. All Those Skyscrapers
Welcome to Dubai! If you look to your left, you can see a skyscraper. If you look to your right, you can see a skyscraper. From residential and business building to towering hotels, and ones that are a mix of both ... Including the one and only, Burj Khalifa, the highest on our list … and in the world!
6. Dubai Water Canal
A new project to create a three kilometer canal from Business Bay into the Arabian Gulf with hotels, restaurants, shopping centers, cycling and walking paths on its sides. This new project is still ongoing, but the infrastructure alone is a wonder! Dubai started with man-made islands, so why not continue with man-made canals that run through the city? Highways are obstructing the way? No problem! Just lift them up! Someone has been playing SimCity before and they were good at it!
