Built by British travelers in 1886, this hotel is the perfect place for a Victorian and ancient Egyptian experience located on the banks of the River Nile in Luxor. The Palace was originally the winter lodging of the Egyptian royal family and the place where Agatha Christie wrote "Death On the Nile."

Built in 1869 for the Egyptian King Ismail Pasha, the Mena House was initially a hunting lodge. The hotel was officially opened to the public in 1886 and named after Mena, who founded the first Egyptian dynasty. The hotel has welcomed some of the most prominent visitors including Winston Churchill, Richard Nixon and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

Lebanon

3. Palmyra, Baalbak

Built in 1874, Palmyra is one of the oldest hotels in Lebanon and was built by a Greek named Perikili Mimikakis. The hotel has played host to some prominent visitors. In 1883, Prince Frederick Carl of Germany wrote: "When we finally came to the Hotel Palmyra, having spent eight nights of storm in tents, we found ourselves in paradise."

4. Mir Amin Palace, Beiteddine

This hotel is a former residence of the last Emirs of Lebanon during the 19th century. It is one of Beiteddine's historical landmarks.

Jordan

5. Intercontinental Jordan Hotel

Although the hotel doesn't have much of a historic context, it is considered to be one of the oldest five star hotels to open in the entire region. The hotel opened in 1963.

Syria

A 17th century boutique hotel, Al Mamlouka is built around a central courtyard located in the Christian quarter of Damascus' old city. It's considered to be the first restored historic house turned hotel in the Old City.

One of the oldest hotel in Syria and the region, Baron hotel was forced to close its doors in 2014 due to the ongoing Syrian war. For two years there had been almost no paying guests.
