I always found it weird that many United Arab Emirates residents can’t wait for Ramadan to start to take their annual leave and "flee" the country. Personally, I think this is the best time of year to be in the UAE (despite the unavoidable heatwave), and here is why:

1. The shorter working hours

Many companies in the UAE allow employees to work shorter hours during Ramadan, which means extra time to do all the pending things on your list that you never had the time for, like working out, taking on a new hobby or just relaxing by the pool if you are not fasting. It is like a holiday without having to take a day off!

2. The offers and discounts

If you have been dreaming about that weekend stay at your favorite 5-star hotel in Dubai, Fujairah or Ras Al Khaimah, then Ramadan is the best time of year to do so! Almost all hotels offer lower rates and extremely tempting offers during the holy month. You can literally have a stay-cation every weekend of the month!

3. The quieter roads

Yes, there is a traffic jam in the afternoon and a possibility of encountering road rage, but think of the peaceful and quiet roads at iftar time! You can go from Dubai to Sharjah in literally 20 minutes! Also, many families choose to take their vacation during Ramadan because it coincides with the school break, which means less traffic on the roads every morning. UAE highways never looked so good!

4. The slower workflow

It is no secret that businesses slow down during Ramadan, so for many people this month is a chance to kick back around the office, relax and do minimal tasks until the workflow starts to pick up again. (No one will blame you for playing Candy Crush in the office right now).

5. The iftar and suhur invites

From corporate iftars to homemade food at a friend’s house… This month is the best time of year to enjoy new dishes and catch up with friends over some delicious food. But be prepared to go one size up and increase your calorie intake!
