The beginning of a semester to a student is like a clean slate, a place where you can start over and prove to yourself that you're now an "adult", and that you can handle college life. At the beginning of every semester, we all make impossible promises to ourselves that we think will make us better, but honestly, we never keep those. Here are some lies every student tells themselves at the beginning of every semester.

1. I'm gonna fix my sleep schedule

You really try to do this. You actually go to bed at around 10 p.m., but end up staying up until 5 a.m. for some reason. Honestly, it's a mess and you have no idea how you're going to make it to that 10 a.m. class.

2. I'm going to study between classes

You are more likely to be abducted by aliens than to actually have the willpower to go to the library between classes and study. You may go as far as walking toward the general direction of the library, but on your way, you'll run into so many people you can hang out with that you'll completely forget all about studying, and maybe even your next class.

3. I'm not missing classes without a good reason

"This semester, I'm getting a full grade on attendance". Sure, and while you're at it, you can also pursue your lifelong dream of becoming the next Steve Jobs and reach billionaire status. This is just not going to happen, and we all know who's to blame: not you, but your comfortable bed that just won't let you go!

4. I'm not leaving papers until the last minute

You may actually manage to convince yourself that this will happen, and you submit a couple of papers a few days before the deadline, feeling like you can take on the world. But, don't let this deceive you, the further you move into the semester, the closer your submission will get to 11:59 on the deadline.

5. I'm not having all-nighters

"This semester, I will be organised and fix my time so I won't have to stay up for three days to study for an exam." You wanting this to be true is so adorable, because it is definitely going to be false. A natural part of college is the lack of sleep, so why fight the natural and try to convince yourself that you'll be sleeping? Just stick to the coffee and Redbull and you'll be fine.
