With the recent flooding in Alexandria, the cyclone that just hit Yemen, and the summer's massive heatwave, it's been a pretty crazy year for natural disasters.

However, even though the recent ones have been rough, these 12 natural disasters from the last 50 years collectively left thousands and thousands of dead and massive amounts of destruction throughout the Middle East and North Africa.

1. Cairo earthquake in 1992, Egypt

On Oct. 12, 1992, a massive earthquake with a magnitude of 5.8 struck Egypt's capital, leaving 445 dead and 6,512 injured.

2. 2009 Jeddah torrential floods, Saudi Arabia

Flooding in Jeddah and other parts of Saudi Arabia left at least 124 people dead and possibly more than 500 according to some reports. Many roads were under a meter of water and some 3,000 vehicles were washed away or severely damaged.

3. North Yemen earthquake in 1982

Some 2,800 people died and 1,500 were injured when a 6.0 magnitude earthquake struck near the city of Dhamar in Northern Yemen on Dec. 13, 1982.

4. Van earthquake in 2011, Turkey

With a shock magnitude of 7.1, the earthquake left 604 dead and 4,152 injured on Oct. 23, 2011. More than 6,000 buildings were left uninhabitable due to damages.

5. Iran blizzard in 1972

A weeklong period of winter storms and exceptionally low temperatures in February of 1972 left some 4,000 to 6,000 dead, making the blizzard one of the deadliest in recorded history.

6. İzmit earthquake in 1999, Turkey

Only lasting for 37 seconds, the 7.6 magnitude earthquake left 17,000 dead and 43,959 injured in August of 1999. Nearly half a million people were also left homeless following the disaster.

7. Algiers and Bab El Oued flooding and mudslide in 2001, Algeria

Algeria saw terrible flooding and mudslides in November of 2001 that left between 700 and 1000 people dead. Around 1,500 families were also left homeless.

8. 1990 Manjil–Rudbar earthquake, Iran

The 7.4 magnitude quake occurred on Jun. 20, 1990, leaving 35,000 to 50,000 dead and 60,000 to 105,000 injured in its wake.

9. Tunisia flooding in 1969

For nearly 40 days, rain pounded Tunisia from September to October in 1969. When the rain finally ended, 600 were dead and some 300,000 people were left as refugees.

10. 2003 Bam earthquake, Iran

On Dec. 26, 2003, a 6.6 magnitude earthquake left 26,271 deaths and 30,000 more injured.

11. 1996 Yemen flood

Massive flooding in June of 1996 left 338 dead and more than 22,000 families without homes,

12. 1966 Maian flood, Jordan

In February of 1966, 259 people died due to flooding in Jordan.
