Every December, Google releases its top searched words, events and people. It is a great way to look back on 2015.

This year, instead of focusing on the globally searched terms, we decided to take a look at the top searched people and terms in Saudi Arabia. Most of these terms were originally searched in Arabic, so we did the appropriate transliteration.

People

1. Saad Majrad

This Moroccan cutie is taking the Saudi music world by storm, with over 600,000 likes on his Facebook page, he could be a big name in 2015 as well.

2. Hussien El Iman

The late El Imam was a jack of all trades, finding success as a musician and actor. The well-known Egyptian died on May 17, 2014 at the age of 63.

3. Khaled Saleh

This Egyptian actor died on September 25th, 2014. Egyptian cinema movers and shakers came out in full force for his funeral. Saleh was only 50 years old .

4. Lotfia El Nadi

El Nadi was the first Egyptian woman to fly a plane between Cairo and Alexandria, Egypt in 1933. She was also the second woman in the world to fly a jet solo. Her popularity this year was thanks to Google, as the search engine celebrated what would have been her 107th birthday on the Google Egypt homepage with a photo of the pilot wearing an aviator helmet.

5. Jana El Shammari

This young girl's fame goes back to Saudi's national day, when the 11 year old showed up unveiled with her hair uncovered, dressed in a green abaya. Although other young girls heads were uncovered, El Shammari became famous on Twitter, especially with Saudi men, inspiring a hashtag #JanaElShammari.This new and unfamiliar scene in Saudi has divided many people, with some coming to her defense, while other claim that she was dressed provocatively.

Searches

1. Lama El Rouqi

Sadly, El Rouqi was a young Saudi girl who fell 140 meters into an aquifer in the Tabuk area and died. She was the most searched term in 2014.

2. Koursh el bahar or "Sea Shark"

This popular reality TV show in Egypt pranks celebrities by pretending to be a shark attacking a boat in the middle of the sea. This show was intensely popular, with one clip featuring FiFi Abdo garnering over 2.5 million views.

3. iPhone 6

Saudis loved the iPhone 6, which is interesting as this was the first year that Apple didn't make it into the top ten searched phrases globally.

4. Sadikat al Omr or "BFF"

This Kuwaiti TV show revolves around four girl friends at school. Every girl comes from a different background, representing different cultures and how the bonds of friendship can overcome their differences.

5. World Cup

Pretty self explanatory. There wasn't a human on the planet earth that wasn't interest in the World Cup this June and July.
