On Monday, a leaked viral video capturing Lebanese Minister of Foreign Affairs and Head of Free Patriotic Movement Gibran Bassil labeling the country's parliament speaker and head of Amal political movement Nabih Berri a "thug" sparked violent riots in Beirut.

According to Annahar, the statement, which was deemed offensive to Berri, angered his supporters and fueled existing political tensions between the speaker and Lebanon's President Michel Aoun - who's also Bassil's father-in-law.

The controversy started playing out on social media over the weekend, with thousands of Lebanese taking to the platforms expressing their opinions on the matter.

By Monday, the online stir moved offline, leading hundreds to take to the streets, violently attacking public property and burning tires.

As local televisions captured the chaos, social media users who were angered by the violent turn of events vented their frustration, trolling the entire incident with memes, puns, and posts that were all just right on point.

Here are a few of them:

1. The one with the ultimate 'baltajeh' (thug) wordplay

4. The one that was right on point

5. The one that brilliantly trolled the utter lack of common sense

"A protestor speaking to news reporter Rachel Karam: As you can see, this is a peaceful riot, we're only burning tires."

7. The one that raised a legit question

"I just want to understand how people are still finding tires to burn? I am sure someone must be importing ones that are just set aside for burning."

8. The one that reminded us of the not-so-funny truth

8. The one that hilariously took a dig at Lebanese drama series amid the chaos

"15 minutes until Lebanese drama series 'All the love and adoration' airs, bringing back joy into our lives after this action-packed day."

9. The one that made us laugh even more

Breaking News: "Germany's president: Co-existence between Lebanese sets a role model for the entire region."
