The World Squash Federation has announced that the upcoming Men's Squash Team Championship, which was scheduled to be held in Cairo on Dec. 12, is indefinitely postponed for security concerns. The decision came after multiple teams, including the English, French, and German teams, withdrew from the championship.
Assem Khalfa, the Egyptian Federation president, said that "all arrangements for the holding of the event are made, including full government support to ensure security and therefore, there is no reason for the championship not to proceed."
“However we are mindful that some teams did not wish to attend the championship for their own reasons and wish to end any uncertainty for other nations in a positive way by postponing until a later date," he added.
Narayana Ramachandran, the President of the World Squash Federation, also voiced his regrets and said that "it is distressing that this event in the wonderful city of Cairo is being postponed," according to Egyptian Streets . "For now we accept the decision of our esteemed Egyptian partners and express our disappointment to them and the many nations that were in expectation of what would have been a superb championship."
It is not yet clear as to when or where the championship will be held as no new date or location was set.
