Topping the list of hot topics in Egypt is Yasmin Al Narsh, 40, whose viral video of her beating a police officer has raised eyebrows.
Captured while Narsh was at the Cairo airport on April 28, the video shows the commotion that led to her arrest for insulting and beating a police officer. Along with possession of 200 grams of hash, a fact that was only discovered after she harrassed the police officer.
Maybe if you are carrying illegal drugs, you shouldn't beat police offers? #justsaying
A three-part video went viral on the social networks on May 4, showing Narsh, dubbed as the “airport woman,” shouting and insulting the officer, saying: “I can pee on you, or even shit on you, but I won’t because I’m a respectable woman."
As if that weren't enough, she adds that, “Should I strip naked so that you can rightfully get me the tourism police, or will you watch your tongue and keep your head down because you don’t know anything about me?”
Narsh was allegedly late for her domestic flight to Hurghada according to General Abu Bakr Abdel Karim, deputy minister of interior for media and public relations, which caused her agitation. After causing trouble with one of the Egypt Air personnel, a police officer was involved. Following the outburst, Narsh was referred for investigation, during which they found her in possession of 200 grams of hash, which she denied was hers. She accused the airport security of slipping the hash into her luggage.
Reactions varied between blaming Narsh for her offensive reaction:
to those who thought she has guts and backbone:
Others pointed out the absurdity of the entire situation:
And naturally those who made a joke out of the whole thing:
Abdel-Karim says that Narsh had been detained for 4 days awaiting investigations and then she received a renewal of another 15 days.
No official charges have been pressed.
