As kids, especially after Tom Hanks' film "Cast Away," we would often get asked what is the one thing we'd like with us if we were stranded on an island?
With the current refugee crisis, this question has changed.
"If you had to flee your country, what’s the one piece of technology you would take with you?"
Based on research conducted by BBC Media Action, in partnership with DAHLIA, this newly released film wants people to know what it's like to be a refugee with a phone. The film was designed to be watched on a mobile phone, allowing viewers a first-hand perspective of what it's like while fleeing a war-torn country.
Here's a glimpse:
Dealing with connectivity issues non-stop
And issues with your SIM card because crossing borders to different countries doesn't help
And the heart-breaking things refugees encounter while fleeing
It's about time the world acknowledges the severity of the crisis
Because something has to be done as we stand # WithRefugees
The film was produced to raise awareness among humanitarian agencies about the struggles and communication issues of refugees in transit.
