App of the Month: This popular app is celebrating its 100 millionth scan, so we figured it was time to feature it on the website after a few rave reviews from family and friends. Founded by Danish pair Heini Zachariassen and Theis Soendergaard, Vivino was originally intended to be like IMDB for wine, but evolved to be app that users can use to identify any wine bottle in the world.
Why we love this app:
,- After taking a picture, Vivino can instantly identify the wine brand and type, meaning no more just judging by the label.
- There are lists that suggest specific wines to pair with meals, as well as suggestions like good wines for Christmas.
- With over 7 million users, you can link up with friends to see there favorite wines as well.
- The more that you use the app to snap photos of wines that you enjoy, the app recommends other wines it thinks that you will like.
- It's free.
- Wine, duh.
Downsides:
,- It can show all the wines in nearby places based on users that have scanned them previously. But, this feature only works well if nearby users are scanning wines.
- There is no wine actually included with the app.
