Uber car services teams with HarassMap, an award winning initiative combating sexual harassment in Egypt, to train drivers to “recognize, prevent and take positive action” against sexual assault in the country.
The statement on Uber's website calls for a positive change and action against the growing epidemic of sexual harassment in Egypt.
The statement reads that "every driver on the Uber app will be trained to take positive action against sexual harassment" and that "every trained driver will receive a certificate of recognition" along with a "car sticker vowing to take positive action" in the case of witnessing sexual harassment.
The multinational company added that the "Uber Cairo team are now better trained and equipped to apply and implement anti-sexual harassment policies to prevent sexual harassment incidents."
The partnership between the two also aims to set an example and lead other Egyptian and international corporations to join the "nationwide movement" and effectively take part in the action of enforcing positive change for women and men in the country.
The collaboration was initiated as part of HarassMap's Safe Corporates project, which was created to educate employees in medium and large businesses on how to identify and deal with sexual harassment in the work place; the project also hopes to enforce a "zero-tolerance" policy for sexual harassment.
