Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has ordered the release of 730 inmates who have been jailed in Dubai just ahead of Ramadan.

In collaboration with the Dubai Police, the prosecutors have begun legal procedures to carry out the order.

Sheikh Mohammed isn't the only ruler to order the release of prisoners in the UAE just ahead of the holy month.

UAE's president Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan ordered the release of 1,010 inmates.

As did Ras Al Khaimah's Sheikh Saudi bin Saqr Al Qasimi who has ordered the release of 247 prisoners and has offered to settle the debts of those imprisoned for financial crimes.

Between the three emirates, a total of 1,987 prisoners will be released.

Ramadan Kareem indeed!
