Twitter users in the United Arab Emirates have been wracking their brains to define what the “Oriental” or Arab man is famous for. Users in Egypt and Jordan also weighed in, giving us a nice, well-rounded view of what to expect when approaching an Arab man.
An overwhelming majority thought that an Arab man was famous for being selfish, portraying him in a pessimistic light:
Sorry guys, seems like you have a bad rep!
"Being jealous of his woman"
"Some are famous for their jealousy, their pride, and their overbearing perfection"
"Selfishness"
We scrolled some more – determined to bring some salvation to the poor Arab man – alas! We found that he was a notorious misogynist, apparently:
We seriously need to talk about your patriarchal tendencies
"He's a notorious cheater and thinks very little of women. Thank you Ahlam Mostaghanmy."
"Has this idea that the woman is meant to stay in the kitchen"
"[Famous] for liking a successful working woman but marrying someone who stays at home to take care of the kids."
"For not respecting the rights of others..."
But! Some did come to the Arab man’s rescue, most saying he was sensitive:
We do like our men to be emotionally available.
"He's lovable, cute, crazy, and decent, and he's one of a kind"
"His weakness is the goodness of his heart, that poor sensitive soul"
"He loves you from the first Like on Facebook... or [the first] retweet here"
"Loves a girl from the first mention, like, [or] comment."
We think The Oriental/Arab Man might need to hire a publicist, ASAP. His image seems less than adequate.
