Tunisian rapper Klay BBJ, who is known for stirring controversy with his music, was arrested Saturday in Tunisia for the second time, according to AFP .
The rapper was arrested along with two other people as they were heading to play a concert in the Tunisian town Hammamet, according to BBJ's lawyer Ghazi Mrabet.
The three were reportedly detained for the illegal possession and consumption of drugs, a crime that could cost them five years in jail, according to a source in the Tunisian judiciary.
Mrabet said that the rapper, whose off-stage name is Ahmed Ben Ahmed, denied using drugs.
The rap singer was controversially arrested along with rapper Weld El 15 two years ago for insulting a public servant and were given a 21-month sentence that was reduced to 6 months and before they were acquitted on appeal.
The widely publicized case was seen by BBJ's fans and others in Tunisia as an attempt to punish him for writing and producing music that criticized the Tunisian authorities and negatively commented on the social and political climates in Tunisia.
"For another time, the Tunisian rapper Klay BBJ has been arrested. Every time you arrest Klay, we will listen to his songs more and we will interpret them and share them to non-Tunisians, they should know that the voice of Tunisia is not the Nobel. Its voice comes from the voice of people like Klay."
A series of videos titled "Sayeb Klay - Khanga" were posted online at the time, with prominent Tunisians from different professions defending BBJ and calling for his release.
Saturday's arrest saw the same reaction as Tunisians started calling for the release of the rapper on social media with hashtags such as #freeklay and "leave Klay" in Arabic.
BBJ's official Facebook page was also active as it posted a photo of the two detained rappers with the caption "Our weapon is the mic."
