We've all dreamed once or twice about just quitting our jobs someday and traveling the world. With Instagram and #wanderlust constantly trending, it's impossible not to fantasize every once in a while.

Some are brave enough to actually take the next step and Omniya Fareed Shafik is one of those people. Shafik, an Egyptian woman who was working in an Abu Dhabi bank, realized her corporate 9 to 5 lifestyle just wasn't for her anymore.

"I was really unhappy with my banking job in Abu Dhabi and spent the whole day daydreaming about places I want to see and different experiences," Shafik told StepFeed.

"I was able to make a steady income through freelancing as a part time job and this is when I decided that I can do this full time (traveling and writing). I didn't want to regret not quitting or doing what I love years from now, which I probably would have if I didn't quit."

Of course, as an Arab and as a woman, this decision wasn't exactly thrilling for Shafik's family and many questioned why she would run from stability.

"Many people also tell me that what I'm doing is really risky because stability is important. Freelance writing isn't really that common and many people don't consider it to be stable for some reason," she explained.

Regardless, armed with her bags and her Egyptian passport, Shafik pursued her passion for travel and adventure. So far, she has had the opportunity to visit Russia, South Korea, Japan, Morocco, Egypt, South Africa, and a lot of Europe.

"There are many unexpected things that happen when you travel," Shafik said. She also stressed the importance of "being open to learn about people and new cultures, even if they're completely different from yours or they have opposing opinions."

As far as advice for new budget travelers, Shafik suggests taking metros, eating cheap local food and cooking for yourself whenever possible She also said that its important to only pay for things you really want to do or see.

"Many people just go to every single museum or sightseeing location because its mentioned in a travel guide. Only go to the places that you find interesting and would love to explore."

While some friends and family may still question her decision, Shafik certainly doesn't have any regrets.

"This was definitely the best decision I took in my life," she said. "Ten or even thirty years from now I'm going to look back and be proud that I lived the life I want."
