Like every country in the world, Saudi Arabia has its quirks. Some might be interesting, others can find it maddening. Riyadh in specific has a lot of this mainly because it's one of the few places that has a certain routine to it that might be different from the rest of the world.
1. Your practice driving inside the foreign oil compound
2.Your weekends used to be on Thursday and Friday now they are on Friday and Saturday
I guess Sunday is a miserable day no matter where you are
3. Guys who drive a Hummer are considered cool
Because you know, it's so "Kashkha". NOT!
4. You learn to distinguish between the different types of Arabic
If you're trying to guess which language that is, it's Sudanese.
5. You give up on celebrating anything
Muslims in Saudi Arabia are only allowed to partake in celebrations that have been specifically dedicated to God; Eid Al-Fitr, which is celebrated at the end of Ramadan, and Eid Al-Adha. Non-Islamic holidays and their origins are considered Haram and cannot be celebrated. There are extensive police searches on holidays like New Years and many roads will be blocked.
