Ominous clouds of sand descended on Saudi Arabia on Sunday, causing low visibility and disrupting traffic.

Wind speeds hit 55 km per hour, as the sand blocked out the sky in parts of the kingdom, according to Arab News. Some schools sent students home, fearing the storm would worsen.

Storm "Madar", as it has been dubbed, originated in the deserts of Libya, blew through Egypt and then landed in the kingdom. Jeddah was hit hard by the sandy winds, causing many to share apocalyptic videos and photos on social media.

Brown clouds blocked out the sky

Is it the end of the world?!

And Riyadh was hit hard as well

Don't worry, it's just "blowing dust"

People are just happy they survived
