Civilians in Egypt, you're up for a treat because the country is about to observe a meteor shower!

Ashraf Tadres, the head of the Department of Astronomy at the National Institute for Astronomical Research, announced  that Egypt would witness a phenomenal meteor shower until the early days of August.

Meteor showers occur when dust and particles from asteroids or comets enter earth's atmosphere. As they burn up a hundred kilometers above the earth's surface, they produce the "shooting star" effect that is so spectacular for observers.

This week's shower is best observed from highland, plains and agricultural land between midnight and dawn when up to 15 to 30 meteors can be seen every hour.
