President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi's words are being used against him in the latest social media frenzy targeting the Egyptian head of state.
After spotting a Patek Philippe watch around his wrist during Eid El-Fitr prayers at the Mohamed Karim mosque in Alexandria earlier this week, people were quick to express their anger.
According to social media activists, and upon searching for the model online, the watch was found to be worth over $60,000 (EGP 1,087,200.)
And that's why many thought it would be wise to remind Sisi of some his famous sayings.
Does "E7na fo2ara awi" ring a bell?
"The watch Sisi is wearing costs $65,000 ... 'We're very poor guys, and we should bear with it.'"
What about "It7amalo ya Masriyin"?
"A watch worth half a million pounds on Sisi's wrist. It doesn't have anything to do with [Sisi's saying] 'Bear with it, Egyptians'."
Remember when Sisi called for austerity? Well, it doesn't look like he's leading by example
"Sisi wears a watch worth a million Egyptian pounds ... and calls for austerity."
Water in your fridge ... and a luxurious watch on your wrist
"We're poor. My fridge has had nothing but water for the past ten years," this Facebook user writes, in reference to the time President Sisi said he spent 10 years with nothing but water in his fridge. "No one heard me complain," he said at the time. "It doesn't come easy to fully depend on yourself."
Benefit of the doubt
Jokes aside, some people gave the president the benefit of the doubt, suggesting that the watch might have been a gift, while others pointed out that there are more pressing issues to worry about than his personal belongings.
