If you happen to be the seventh son of a seventh son, then tough luck. Your career is engraved in stone and your life will always be on the line. Cue fight after fight plus a grand battle. Oh and witches, dragons, a were-bear and an assortment of other things that go bump in the night (and yet aren't particularly scary).
Based on the book, The Spooks Apprentice (also known as The Last Apprentice) by Joseph Delaney, Seventh Son, directed by Sergei Bodrov is about the following: "In a time of enchantments when legends and magic collide, the sole remaining warrior of a mystical order (Oscar® winner Jeff Bridges) travels to find a prophesized hero born with incredible powers, the last Seventh Son (Ben Barnes). Torn from his quiet life as a farmhand, the unlikely young hero embarks on a daring adventure with his battle-hardened mentor to vanquish a dark queen (Julianne Moore) and the army of supernatural assassins she has dispatched against their kingdom."
The scenery is beautiful and the film is entertaining but it lacks that special spark that makes it memorable or outstanding. To its credit, Jeff Bridges gives a solid performance and Julianne Moore seems to enjoy being bad. When a film is highly anticipated, especially by fans of a book series, it's always tough to make everyone happy.
