Ahmad Al Ghamdi, a 60-year-old Saudi Arabian, posted a love note on YouTube from Mount Everest to his wife, thanking her for the 42 years she has spent with him.
Presenting his trip in a 3 minute video, Ghamdi dedicated a love letter at the end of the video to his wife. He also mentioned her name, which is something controversial in conservative Saudi Arabia.
"Ghamdi sending his greetings to his wife and children after a 42 year marriage. A moment of loyalty."
"To my precious wife, Oum Fahd... I thank her for the 42 years of intimacy," Ghamdi said. He also wished her happiness.
He then named and saluted his children, the wife of his son and greeted his grandchildren as "boys and girls." He jokingly said, "I will not mention names to avoid forgetting one and angering any of my daughters."
In the video, Ghamdi appears playing with children and praying to God.
The climber also dedicated another message to his "precious" wife, wishing she was with him. "Oh Oum Fahd, if you did not fear heights, you would have joined me, even if I had to carry you on my shoulders."
