Prominent Saudi academic Ahmad Bin Rashid was reportedly arrested by authorities in Mecca after he criticized MBC, Al Arabiya and Rotana in a recent Twitter rant, in which he called on people to boycott these media outlets.
"Do we have the courage to at least boycott the Zionist media outlets Rotana and MBC during Ramadan? As to stay away from its evil and harm its owners."
"Your enemy is not only one person, but it's also the Saudi people as a whole, and the entire Arab nation. God's curse will be put upon you"
"MBC, Al Arabiya and Rotana have a handful of enemies of virtue. We, the audience, don't have the money and power the organizations do. So, how do we beat them? Through awareness and faith."
People have taken to Twitter with the hashtag #WeAreAllBinRashid ( كلنا_احمد_بن_راشد ) in support of Rashid's criticism of the media outlets, claiming that it is his right to express his opinion as he did.
"Man is the basis for building a civilization and the renaissance of a country. Depriving him from the right to express, criticize and participate in a reformation only brings failure"
"Ahmad played a big role in exposing the Zionism of Al-Arabiya and its hostility towards the Arab nation"
"There's no doubt that bin Rashid raised awareness towards the power of Zionist media that played a role in diverting people from religion and the nation's culture and language. God bless u and may you be released"
