However, it's unclear how well these orders were followed and implemented. Several venues continued to advertise deals and also said they weren't ordered to avoid decorations.

The day of love traces its origins to St. Valentine, and it became a widely celebrated Christian holiday in the 14th century.

Previously, Qatari authorities have warned that non-Islamic events shouldn't be celebrated in the emirate.

Last year, nurseries in the emirate were forbidden from having Christmas celebrations. Hotels are also regularly encouraged to focus on decorating for Qatar's National Day instead of Christmas.
