For the first time since 2011, it looks like FC Barcelona will be playing without the word Qatar printed on its jerseys.

For the past few months, Qatar Airways and FC Barcelona have been negotiating a new sponsorship deal, as the previous five-year contract is set to expire in June. Last October, the team was expected announce the extension of the sponsorship deal; however, that did not happen and the talks stalled.

Qatar's deal with the Spanish football club first included the logo for the Qatar Foundation on the team's jerseys from 2011 to 2012. Since then, the jerseys have sported the logo of Qatar Airways.

Qatar's sponsorship of the team has previously faced controversy. Some of the clubs fans have organized protests over the deal, and last summer more than 65,000 people signed an online petition asking the club to drop Qatar Airways as a sponsor.

The new jerseys do not, however, appear to include the name of any sponsor. Only the swoosh logo of Nike is included in addition to the jersey's design elements. It remains unclear whether Qatar's sponsorship of the team will end or will simply be recognized in a different manner.
