Late on Thursday, writer and activist Simran Jeet Singh, shared a series of Snapchat images he had recently come across, revealing what it's really like "for anyone who appears to be Muslim to travel by plane."

The series of images appear to be taken on board a flight and show a man sending out appalling racist messages to his snapchat followers after he mistook a Sikh passenger for a Muslim.

After Singh saw the images, he immediately decided to share them on Twitter.

"How do I retain my confidence and dignity on an airplane while also being thoughtful not to strike fear in the hearts of others?" he wrote.

"I don't say any of this to seek pity or apologies. I want people to hear what kinds of things minority communities endure," he added.

Here's how the entire incident went down:

A white man spotted a Sikh passenger on his flight and shared this

He then updated everyone that even though a Muslim was on his flight... he was still alive

He then sent this out...

Followed by this...

After sharing the thread, Singh received thousands of responses on Twitter

People were "utterly disgusted"

And angered...

"This is just sad (and infuriating) on so many levels!"

A few pointed this out

Minorities aren't only subjected to this kind of racism on planes or at airports

"This hurts so much"

"Even if you had been Muslim, it shouldn't have mattered."
