Saad Lamjarred is back under the limelight for yet another rape accusation.
Paris police reportedly arrested the 31-year-old Moroccan singer yesterday, charging him with sexually assaulting an unnamed French woman. New Arab reports that Lamjarred was accused of “attempting to rape one of the girls who accompanied him”. He is currently held in custody and is scheduled for a hearing on Friday Oct. 28.
Scheduled to perform in Paris’ Palais des Congrés this Saturday Oct. 29, Lamjarred was staying at the Marriott Champs Elysées Hotel, where the assault allegedly took place.
“We are following this issue with great interest and have communicated with French authorities to clarify this matter,” Moroccan Minister of Culture Mohamed Amine Sbihi told the press. Sbihi added that they will do whatever is necessary to resolve the “problem” since Lamjarred is a “big star”.
This isn’t the first time Lamjarred makes headlines for sexual assault. Earlier this year, an American woman accused Lamjarred of physically and sexually assaulting her in Brooklyn in 2010.
The singer allegedly fled the US after posting bail, having been arrested and indicted.
According to The National, Lamjarred denied all accusations and pinned them on being “blessed with fame”. “A lot of big stars have faced similar situations,” he said.
Last year, the 2007 “Super Star” contestant released his first big hit “Lma3llem”, which became the most viewed Arabic music video on YouTube. He’s garnered well over 2 million followers on Facebook and half a million on Twitter, many of which refuse to believe the news holds any shred of truth.
