Some 12,000 people joined the king of Morocco Monday night as he broke his Ramadan fast.
The collective meal took place in Casablanca and has been hailed as the first iftar of its kind in Morocco. King Mohammed VI provided the meal for residents near the Hassan II Mosque, while hosting an additional 1,000 officials at the royal palace.
Coordinated in honor of Laylat al-Qader (the Night of Destiny in English), the streets around the mosque were decorated while booths and tents were set up to host the evening meal.
