Ai Weiwei, a Chinese contemporary artist and activist, is among the 15 artists that will be exhibiting at the New York University Abu Dhabi in September.

Weiwei will be showcasing a wallpaper design, titled Golden Age, a social commentary piece that he made for London's Serpentine Galleries last year.

The exhibition, titled "Invisible Threats Technology and its Discontents," will revolve around the information age, examining the pros and cons of saturated levels of communication.

Known for being a political activist at heart, Weiwei has been highly and openly critical of the Chinese's stance on democracy and human rights.

Weiwei has investigated the government corruption and cover-ups, one of which got him arrested in 2011 at the Beijing Airport, where he was held for 81 days without any official charges being filed. The allegations against the activist were labeled as "economic crimes."

This wouldn't be the first time Weiwei's work has been showcased in the capital. In 2014, his work "Forever" was exhibited as part of Abu Dhabi Art. The piece that was showcased was expressing the lack of freedom in China.
