A photo of an Egyptian teacher, identified as Mrs. Adila, has been making the rounds on Egyptian social media. She was caught stepping on student Mohamed Hamdi's neck while lying on the ground.
The photo originally posted by Samar Soliman has garnered over 40,000 shares and over 20,000 likes on Facebook.
Adila teaches middle school boys a class called: “psychological well-being” (tarbeya nafseye).
According to the Soliman, the teacher put her leg on his neck so Hamdi wouldn’t be able to defend himself.
Since the incident, Hamdi’s classmates have reportedly begun to bully him for “being stepped on like a cockroach.”
Hamdi’s mother came into the school the day following the incident demanding an explanation. According to Soliman’s post, the teacher told her that Hamdi fell on the ground and that she was just trying to help him up.
According to Article 80 of the Egyptian Constitution, “The state shall care for children and protect them from all forms of violence, abuse, mistreatment, and commercial and sexual exploitation.”
