While the Middle East did well in the World Economic Forum's tourism price competitiveness sub-ranking, MENA didn't fare nearly so well in the overall Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Index.

The highest regional country in the overall competitiveness ranking was the United Arab Emirates - ranked No. 24 out of 141 countries that were included in the report.

"Most of the economies in this region are price-competitive destinations and several have built significant T&T industries in recent years," the report said of the Middle East. "However, concerns about security have limited international arrivals, even though secluded tourism resorts are far from the most dangerous areas."

Spain topped the overall rankings, followed by France, Germany, the United States and United Kingdom. #CulturalImperialism
