Emirati bank Mashreq has launched a new bank account that is tailored specifically to making its customers happy, inspired by the UAE's nationwide focus on happiness .

Titled the Happiness Account, the service financially rewards customers, provides them with a variety of benefits and makes their banking experience as convenient and hassle-free as possible.

Mashreq says the account reflects the company's "contribution towards achieving the nation’s vision of the UAE reaching the top rank in the global Happiness Index."

The service, which is available to customers transferring their salary, offers a joining bonus of up to 2,500 dirhams in cash in the customer's account as soon as the first salary is transferred, according to how much they make.

The Happiness Account, which can conveniently be opened online, via SMS, from Mashreq branches or from call centers, then offers free 25 dirhams-worth of Salaam points paid every month the customer makes five online bill payments or money transfers.

In addition, the account gives the customer access to a monthly draw to win 100,000 dirhams, a free-for-life credit card available with up to 10 percent cashback on spends and two free international transfers every month.

"At Mashreq, evolution is in our DNA, and our aim has always been to empower customers and take convenience to the next level," said Mashreq's head of personal banking Tooran Asif.

"So given the moves by the UAE government to prioritize the happiness of both its citizens and residents, it was only natural for us to introduce the new Happiness Account for those who transfer their salary to Mashreq, rewarding them for their efforts with cash in their account and a host of other ongoing benefits, both monetary and in lifestyle enhancing ways," added Asif.

The UAE, which was ranked the world's 28th happiest country by the UN's 2016 World Happiness Report, has been quite intent on ensuring its population is happy.

In February, the UAE's Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid created the country's first ministry for happiness, which is charged with the purpose of maintaining happiness at an institutional level. In March, Sheikh Mohammed also endorsed a national charter for happiness and positivity.
