Arabs have always had a flair for hair. From iconic divas to modern day celebrities, distinctive locks have been at the heart of our conversations for decades.

1. Sabah

Known by her stage name Sabah, Jeanette Georges Feghali was a Lebanese singer and actress. Considered to be the "Diva of Music" in the Arab world, Sabah's hair hit us like a burst of sunlight.

Sabah has passed on, but her "singing bird" (chahroura) voice rings in our ears and her golden aura of wavy locks burns into our memory.

Egyptian actress Sherihan has come a long way since her first movie in 1977 when she was just 12-years-old. She's appeared in various films, television shows and theater productions. Her long black locks reclaimed the glory of the brunette, and recalls the muses of old bedouin poetry. Sherihan is the black-haired Rapunzel through and through.

Her hairstyles are also very distinctive, changing all throughout her career, especially in her fifties.

Yemeni superstar singer Balqees Fathi has the sort of hair you see in commercials. You suspect it is computer generated because it's almost too good to be true.

But, that's not all she's known for. Fathi grew up in an artistic household, noting her father Ahmed Fathi was a well-known Yemeni musician. Fathi began taking musical instruments and singing at a very young age. She released her debut album "Majnoun" in 2013.

Egyptian actress Razek came to fame after the series "Haj Metwally" rolled out. Since then, she's turned into an Egyptian and regional sensation. Aside from her talent, Razek's hairstyles ought to have their own line in the rolling credits. Her hair has its own distinct character due to her daring styles ... and she inspires us to pursue bold hairdos too!

With a career spanning more than 25 years, Zoghbi first started singing traditional Arabic music with a twist of pop. She later began exploring different trends in Arabian music, singing in the Gulf dialect.

But, you can't help but notice her exceptional golden locks. We bet that in any word association game, if you brought up the words "Nawal El Zoghbi" the next word would be "blonde." It is a hairstyle that announces itself, and to great effect.

8. Nelly

Nelly was born into an Armenian family that migrated from Aleppo to Egypt. She started her career as a child actress and grew to regional stardom in 1966 when she snatched the lead role for "Al Murahiqa as Saghira."

Nelly is best known for her "Fawazir Ramadan," a set of TV comedy musicals.

Aside from her artistic talent, Nelly's hair was its own musical piece, her thick curly locks swaying to the rhythm of her performances. We suspect they were integrated into the choreography.

9. Maya Diab

If you're a fashion and beauty fanatic, then you're familiar with Lebanese star Maya Diab. She takes her fashion trends to another level and proves time and again that while daring hair isn't for everyone, she can definitely pull it off.

The silver-grey dye makes her look like a Greek Goddess.

10. Shakira

With Lebanese ancestry, Shakira is an international sensation and we think her gorgeous, unmistakably Arab curls propelled her to the top (or at least helped). Shakira has a powerful voice that you either love or hate, but we all agree that her hair is divine. Her locks are natural, epic yet down-to-earth. It makes us feel that her beauty is effortless.
