Doha may be an amazing city – with culture, art and business all booming – but there's more to Qatar than just the gleaming buildings. If you're planning to make it out there in 2022 for the World Cup, make sure to check out these 5 amazing natural treasures while you're there:
1. Sand dunes
Qatar's sand dunes are a major attraction for recreational safaris with the largest area of sand desert lying to the southwest of the capital. Whether you want to ride the sand dunes or just simply gaze at the spectacular landscape, Qatar's sand dunes are definitely your go-to place.
2. Ras Abrouq
Ras Abrouq Peninsula is noted for its sandy beaches, wild deer reserve, and, of course, its limestone rock formations sculpted by the wind.
3. Khor Al Adaid
Qatar's inland sea, Khor Al Adaid, is one of the few places in the world where the sea encroaches deep into the desert. It is a UNESCO recognized natural reserve with its own ecosystem. Inaccesible by road, Khor Al Adaid can only be reached by crossing the rolling dunes.
4. Dahl Al Misfir Cave
Qatar's 40m deep cave formed largely of fibrous gypsum crystals gives off a moonlike phosphorescent glow.
5. Al Thakira Mangroves
Lying north of Al Khor, Al Thakira mangroves is a large area of vegetation notable for attracting varied bird life, including flamingos and herons. Kayak your way through the mangroves for the best scenery in town.
