TIME Magazine published a video Tuesday of a cat wandering into a folk concert at the American University of Beirut. Journalist Samantha Grossman questioned why people weren't freaking out. Don't worry, Samantha, we'll break it down for you.
AUB looks something like this:
Joking! Actually it looks like this:
Cats have been on campus forever
Since the beginning of the Lebanese Civil War, people who were fleeing the conflict would drop their cats on campus because of its safe reputation.
AUB President John Waterbury legalized cats' stay in the university
In 1998, when the 14th president came on board, the cats' presence on campus was finally regulated. A set of policies were put in place to protect cats from harm, which are still in place today.
To date, there are more than 200 cats:
According to this article in AUB's student newspaper, Outlook, there are roughly 265 cats on campus.
So one cat walks into a concert in AUB the land of cats?
Not this again!
