Focusing on business, development, economics and the future generation, a short documentary on Kuwait titled " Through Our Eyes " was released on YouTube Wednesday.

Showcasing the best that Kuwait has to offer from successful companies and lavish housing projects to a highly educated local population, the first part of the documentary was screened on British Airways flights last summer and also released online.

Both installments play out more like infomercials for potential investors than a truly in-depth look at the reality of the Gulf nation, but that's hardly surprising.

Kuwait is portrayed as a highly developed and modern nation that remains firmly grounded in its history and cultural traditions. It seems everything is moving forward in a positive direction, not only for business but also in politics and tourism.

The documentary goes to lengths to highlight Kuwait's tradition of democracy and free speech.

Although Kuwait does have a popularly elected parliament – its National Assembly is one of the most powerful in the Middle East – the nation is still ruled by a hereditary emir, who has dismissed that assembly numerous times.

Censorship in Kuwait is also a problem. Just last week, three Kuwaiti television channels were taken off the air, with many suggesting that the cancellation was due to criticizing the government.

But these type of short docs are what they are: well-made commercials to sell a dream. Or in this case, to sell a few more tickets on British Airway's daily Heathrow-Kuwait flights.
