Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, wife of Sharjah's ruler, recently put up her own jacket for auction at the Saatchi Gallery in London, winning the highest bid of all the items there.

The gold-threaded jacket was bought by none other than the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry. It sold for 440,000 dirhams (100,000 British Pounds), raising the highest sum of money for a single item at the auction.

Al Qasimi donated the jacket to the "Jeans for Refugees" charity.

One hundred celebrities from around the world, including Ryan Gosling, Cara Delevingne, Elton John and Emma Watson, participated in the auction. It was done in support of the JFR initiative.

"One global humanitarian initiative is Jeans for Refugees, whose organizers have sought to rally support for displaced persons through art," Al Qasimi said, according to The National

The garment was worn by Sheikha Jawaher during her first visit to the Zaatari Refugee Camp in Jordan in 2014. It was later redesigned with golden thread by Johnny Dar, an internationally-acclaimed fashion designer.

“Conflict and strife across the world has encouraged people to launch humanitarian initiatives that support communities affected by them and help them overcome the obstacles and challenges that threaten their lives, such as forced displacement," Al Qasimi said.
