After long and heavy negotiations between Iran and Saudi Arabia on the participation of Iranian citizens in the annual pilgrimage, the two countries have finally come to an agreement.
On Wednesday, talks between Saudi Arabia and Iran were said to have been "positive," according to The Daily Star .
Saudi Hajj Ministry Undersecretary Hussein Sharif said Saudi Arabia will "welcome pilgrims from all around the world."
The two countries have agreed to allow Iranian pilgrims to apply for electronic visas, which can later be printed, as the Saudi diplomatic missions remain closed in Iran. Saudi Arabia has assigned 63,000 visas for Iranian pilgrims, according to Asharq Al Awsat .
Muslims from all over the world visit Saudi Arabia during the annual pilgrimage, which is set to take place in September this year.
Last year’s stampede gave rise to heavy tensions between Iran and Saudi Arabia, as 464 Iranian citizens died during the annual pilgrimage.
