UAE-based company Zero.1 has partnered with Du to bring Li-Fi to life in Dubai!
“We are proud to say that in conjunction with our project partner du, we have been able to initiate the first demonstration of its kind in the Middle East. Working with du, we look forward to the roll-out of our Li-Fi applications in the Dubai ‘Smart City’ platform and the retail sector as the year unfolds,” said Marc Fleschen, CEO of Zero.1, according to Emirates 24|7 .
Li-Fi by definition is the use of the visible light portion of the electromagnetic spectrum to transmit information at very high speeds as opposed to Wi-Fi, which uses traditional radio frequency to do so.
Up to 100 streetlights in Dubai Silicon Oasis will emit LED-powered internet by the end of 2016, with speeds of more than 10 Gbps!
Do you know what that means? You'd be able to download HD movies in a matter of seconds!
Dubai government has long been working to make Dubai the "smartest city in the world." With the smart mall initiative and smart theme parks, the Li-Fi technology will add more smartness to the numerous projects taking over the city.
