Not too long ago, concert organizer 117Live announced an awesome lineup of world-class acts to hit Dubai in coming months, with Elton John and Selena Gomez sweeping headlines.
Sadly, Selena Gomez has cancelled her performance for health reasons. Gomez has been struggling with the rheumatological condition, Lupus for almost a year now.
Gomez is in the midst of her World Revival Tour, and has just announced that she plans to take a break from her career. The tour is mostly in Europe and South America. She has reportedly already canceled concerts in Europe and Canada.
"As many of you know, around a year ago I revealed that I have lupus, an illness that can affect people in different ways," Gomez said, according to Mashable .
Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease that attacks normal, healthy tissue, ultimately leading the body's immune system to become hyperactive.
"I've discovered that anxiety, panic attacks and depression can be side effects of lupus, which can present their own challenges."
Gomez wants to focus on maintaining her "health and happiness,"
Needless to say, people are being understanding.
"Touring can be a gruelling exercise for many artists and when dealing with an illness like lupus even more so, hence we understand Gomez's need to take care of her health and therefore also why she will have to postpone her much anticipated Dubai concert," said Thomas Oveson, CEO of 117Live, according to Shortlist Dubai .
"Fans can look forward to a lot of other great shows at our Autism Rocks Arena this and the following seasons, and we look forward to announcing a new date with Selena Gomez whenever possible."
It's not yet confirmed if the rest of Gomez's Revival World Tour will also be scrapped.
