The cronefeh is stealing all the headlines this morning, but the Lebanese have been taking international foods and putting their own twist on them to make them better for a long time.
Here are our five, drool-worthy favorites. Happy eating.
1. Cronefeh
A step-cousin of the famed Cronut (a croissant in doughnut form), the Cronefeh is chocolate croissant that has been stuffed with kenefeh. Can you say calories?
2. Mexican beer
We're not sure why it is Mexican, but the lemon juice and salt on the rim take an ordinary Almaza and make it fabulous.
3. Chips and labneh
Instead of salsa, dip your chips in labneh for a rich taste that is high in protein. It is healthy, we swear.
4. Zaatar croissant
Live in Lebanon long enough and you'll be putting zaatar, a varied blend of spices that can include thyme, sesame and sumac, in everything. The croissant was not spared.
5. Fries and with garlic sauce
Garlic sauce, or tum, is a staple for any chicken sandwiches or kebab dishes. Dipping your fries in it, while it might not be the nicest for your breath, makes for some tasty eating.
