It's no secret that Iran gets a lot of negative press.

One of U.S. President Donald Trump's key campaign promises was to "tear up" the landmark nuclear deal with the Islamic Republic. After a missile strike from Iran's Houthi allies in Yemen on a Saudi ship last week, Trump's administration announced that it was "officially putting Iran on notice."

It's unclear exactly what "on notice" entails. Trump has also quietly agreed to maintain the nuclear deal with Iran since taking office. Nonetheless, Iran has long been portrayed as a key member of the "axis of evil" in the world and that doesn't seem to be changing anytime soon.

But, that's where the power of social media can play an important role.

Through the Instagram page Everyday Iran, a very different picture emerges. Despite geopolitical tensions, Iranians live normal lives just like people everywhere else in the world (shocking, we know) and this Instagram page is sharing everyday Iranians' perspectives with the world.

Iranians play in the snow, just like anyone else

They hang out at top notch shopping malls

And they suffer from traffic jams

Naps are always important

As is exercises

Some adventure ...

Actually lots of adventure

Care for a flower?

Or a delicious meal?

It's not all "anti-American" hatred, really

There's so much life

And laughter!

Tbh this guy is cool AF

And so are these girls

The landscape is epic

So much to see

So much unique cultural heritage

Don't buy into the stereotypes

Because there's always another side to every story
