Having started in 1946, Festival de Cannes brings together the best of cinematography, showcasing new writing, new genres, and new visual advancements every year. Taking place between May 11 and May 22 in 2016, this year's festival will screen several films from across the MENA region, including Egypt, Iran and Tunisia. Make sure to catch these 4 films:
1. "Eshtebak," Mohamed Diab (Egypt)
Translating to "Clash," the film explores the confrontations between pro- and anti-Muslim Brotherhood demonstrators, following the removal of President Mohammed Morsi in 2013. The film falls in the Un Certain section of the festival and will be screened [PDF] at Cannes on May 12.
2. "Forushande," Asghar Farhadi (Iran)
Translating to "The Salesman," Farhadi's film is the story of a couple whose relationship begins to turn sour during their performance of Arthur Miller's "Death of a Salesman." The film falls in the In Competition section of the festival and will be screened at Cannes on May 21.
3. "Varoonegi," Behnam Behzadi (Iran)
Translating to "Inversion," Behzadi's film is the story revolving around sudden temperature changes and a big plague in Tehran, where a woman in her 30s is torn between leaving the city with her family or staying behind to pursue a love interest. The film falls in the Un Certain section of the festival and will be screened at Cannes on May 18.
4. "Chouf," Karim Dridi (Tunisia)
The film falls in the Special Screenings section of the festival and will be screened at Cannes on May 15.
