Sam Esmail's hit television series "Mr. Robot" took home the prize for Best Drama Series during the 73rd Golden Globe Awards.
Written, directed and produced by the 38-year-old Egyptian American, "Mr. Robot" airs on USA Network and also stars Egyptian-American actor Rami Malek . Nominated for Best Drama Series Actor, Malek was beaten out by Jon Hamm from the popular "Mad Men" TV series. However, Malek's co-star, Christian Slater, managed to take home the award for Best Television Series Supporting Actor for his role in "Mr. Robot."

Upon receiving the award, Esmail said, "I’ve got to thank my family. My family here and my family in Egypt. And to them I just want to say shukran!"
Notably, Esmail nodded to his Arab heritage, throwing in the "shukran" to close his speech.
With a rating of 98 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, "Mr. Robot" has received significant praise from fans and critics. The series has already received the Television Program of the Year award from the 2015 American Film Institute Awards and Audience Award for Best Episodic from the 2015 SXSW Film Audience Award.
